web site design tips
This month’s website design tip is on the topic of vector vs. raster graphics.
web site design techniques
This month’s website design technique demonstrates a wacky way to fake a resizable background image in a DIV.
- All pages of this web site comply with all Priority 1 guidelines of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- All pages of this web site are Section 508 approved, complying with all guidelines of the U.S. Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines.
Links
- There are no “javascript:” pseudo-links. All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off. In the case of email addresses, an anti-spam javascript is in use that assembles the separated parts of an email address so as to make harvesting of the address more difficult. In the event javascript has been disabled, an image showing the email address may appear and/or the email address will be available as an ALT attribute spelled out with spaces in between each letter of the address, with any symbols being spelled instead as words (without spaces). Most often this means “@” will be read/written as “at” and “.” will be read as “dot” when used in an email address.
- There are no links that open new windows without warning.
Images
- All content images include descriptive ALT attributes.
- Most decorative images are delivered via the style sheet and are therefore not present in the HTML documents. Purely decorative or spacer graphics found in the HTML include null ALT attributes.
Forms
- Any forms used on this site employ LABEL tags to associate text with their appropriate form element.
Visual Design
This site uses cascading style sheets for the majority of its visual layout. A “Low Bandwidth” version of this site (available via links at page left) is available to any user who needs and/or prefers viewing this site’s content without consuming the additional bandwidth needed for the default visual layout.
Acronyms and Abbreviations
The ABBR tag is used for abbreviations on this site. Abbreviations currently used most often on this site are as follows:
